Photomapping Our World

Photomapping our WorldPhotomapping Our World was commissioned as part of Juice Festival 2010.

Children aged 10 and 11from St Aidan’s C of E Primary School in Gateshead worked with internationally known photographers, Gideon Mendel and Crispin Hughes. Using digital cameras, the children documented their own lives photographing themselves, their families and friends.

All the photographs were taken during a week in June 2010, coinciding with the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Working with writer Lesley Wood, the children also wrote about their photographs and these pieces of creative writing were included in the exhibition.

If you’d like to see more you can view a selection of the photographs here, check out the video below, or visit the exhibition itself which is on display at Discovery Museum, Newcastle until 27 February 2011.
